Fire broke out in Uttarakhand’s forest due to the rise in mercury levels. The state has reported 46 wildfire incidents so far due to which around 51.34 hectares of forest cover has been destroyed. Due to these forest fire instances, the forest department has incurred a loss of Rs 1.32 lakh this year. According to the forest department team, the fire broke out in a forest area, which is 3 kms away from the Srinagar city. “5-6 hectares of forest have been affected. The fire could not be controlled due to wind. More teams will be called to extinguish it,” said forest officer Anita Kunwar. Maximum of 21 wildfires have been reported from the Kumaon region. The Garhwal region and the reserve forest areas in the state have witnessed 16 and nine wildfires instances respectively. Two persons have died and one has sustained injuries while trying to escape wildfires till now. (All photos: Instagram/Twitter)
