NEW DELHI: Delhi Lt Governor on Sunday overruled chief minister Arvind Kejriwal‘s order that hospitals in the national capital will only be available for residents of the city for treatment of Covid-19.
Baijal is the chairman of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).
Following LG’s new order, a dismayed Kejriwal said that it will create a challenge for his administration.
“LG Sahib’s order has created a huge problem and challenge for the people of Delhi. Providing treatment for people coming from all over the country during Coronavirus pandemic is a big challenge. We will try to provide treatment to all,” Kejriwal said.
His deputy too wasn’t pleased with LG’s decision.
“Delhi Government had taken the decision after thorough deliberations so that people of Delhi could get beds and treatment if cases increase in future. The CM had planned how many beds were needed for how many cases and how they will be arranged,” said Delhi deputy CM Manish Sisiodia.
Yesterday, Kejriwal had said that the hospitals run by the Centre will have no such restriction, and if the people from other states come to the national capital for specific surgeries, they can get medical treatment at private hospitals.
A five-member panel constituted by the AAP government had suggested that the health infrastructure of the city should be used only for treating Delhiites in view of the raging COVID-19 crisis.

Delhi government hospitals have around 10,000 beds while the Centre-run hospitals have almost the same number of beds, he said, adding that it will strike a balance and protect the interest of those belonging to the national capital and other states as well.
The LG also reversed the Kejriwal govt’s order to stop testing of asymptomatic contacts of coronavirus positive patients.
The LG said that the ICMR strategy prescribing testing for nine categories, including asymptomatic, direct and high-risk contacts of confirmed case once in 5-10 days of contact, will be followed.
The number of coronavirus cases in the national capital rose to 28,936 with 1,282 fresh infections, while the death toll climbed to 812 on Sunday.
