NEW DELHI: Mercedes Benz India expects the automobile sale in the country to bloom post-lockdown, however, the effect may not reflect on the luxury segment, according to a top company official.
Martin Schwenk, MD and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India in TOI Dialogues, said, “The trend of opting for personal mobility is very visible in China. In India, however, the situation is a little different. A similar trend is not relevant for the luxury segment. I expect, at the entry segment, customers will go for individual transportation. I don’t expect a lot in the luxury end.”
Mercedes-Benz India has been strongly pitching in with new models in the market amid the downturn. India’s largest luxury carmaker plans to drive in 10 news products in 2020. Earlier this week, AMG C 63 Coupe and 2020 AMG GT-R were digitally rolled out.
Martin also took to Instagram on Friday to announce the launch of another upcoming SUV. The flagship Mercedes-Benz GLS will break covers on June 17. The first-ever electric offering – EQC – will also walk into the scene later in this financial year.
Martin refused on mergers and ties in the current scenario. “We have to understand that we are the biggest to push the market alone. We don’t have any major activity,” he concluded.
